A Collaborative Indie Fashion Development and Production Company
Plans are taking shape in early 2012 for the expansion of Ladybird's studio into a full scale sample room and production sewing factory.
COsewn is a sewing development and production company founded by Jessica
Montoya to facilitate collaboration and community growth within the local and domestic
apparel and sewn goods industry. With a focus on serving emerging and independent
designers and custom clients, COsewn provides consulting, patternmaking, product
development, sample sewing, and small quantity production services to designers,
as well as custom clothing, couture, and costumes to consumers. High quality
craftsmanship, attention to detail, and preservation of artisan techniques are at the
company core. This business is poised to become a centralized resource hub in Denver
that is capable of connecting clients with a wide range of skilled sewing related industry
technicians through in house cut and sew services in addition to project management of
a nationwide subcontract and referral network of skilled professionals and factories.
Goals and Aspirations of COsewn include:
• Preserve domestic apparel/sewn goods industry by promoting sewing, patterning, and
related artisan craftsman skills and traditions and equipping a younger generation with
tools, mentorship, and opportunity to learn and work in the industry with a focus on
developing sustainable local infrastructure and supporting domestic supply chains.
• Build a diverse sewn goods/apparel/textile/fashion/costume industry network of
contractors, suppliers, and organizations who encourage collaboration, education,
ethics, innovation, viability, and sustainability in the domestic and global needle trade
and connect designers and consumers with these resources.
• Focus on developing and maintaining standardized skills and artisan processes
with an emphasis on quality, longevity, and flexible lean production capability that is
accessible to small quantity manufacturers, startups, and individual consumers.
• Facilitate sustainable/fairtrade/eco/ethical domestic design & production by providing
an accessible and supportive point of entry to the industry for designers to develop,
produce, establish, and market their brands.
